Staying safe on JobTackl

Most local service bookings pass without incident. These are the habits that keep it that way, for customers inviting someone into their home and for providers going into someone else's.

Guidance, not a live service. JobTackl has not launched, so there are no bookings yet. This is the advice we will give, and the practices we are building around. In an emergency, always contact the emergency services on 999.

Safety on a marketplace is shared. JobTackl builds checks and reporting into the platform; customers and providers bring judgement to individual bookings. This page covers both.

1. In an emergency

If someone is in immediate danger, or a crime is taking place, call 999. For non-emergency police matters, call 101.

JobTackl is not an emergency service and cannot respond in real time. Contact the emergency services first, then tell us through Report a Problem so we can act on the account involved.

2. Before you book

For customers:

  • Read the provider’s profile properly — what they offer, the area they cover, and how they price.
  • Agree the scope in writing before work starts, including what is and is not included.
  • Check the specific verification badges shown on the profile and ask about relevant insurance. Gas work, notifiable electrical work, structural alterations and the other high-risk services listed in our Acceptable Use Policy are not permitted at initial launch.
  • Be wary of anyone pushing you to move the conversation or payment off the platform. That removes the record we would need to help you later.

For providers:

  • Make sure the job description matches what you are qualified and insured to do.
  • Confirm the address, access arrangements and who will be present.
  • Decline work you are not comfortable with. There is no penalty for turning down a job that does not feel right.

Before a booking is accepted, providers see only a coarse service area. The full address is revealed only after the provider accepts and the booking is confirmed. It may be used only to complete that booking and must not be retained, shared or revisited for another purpose. Exact home addresses must never appear in profiles, reviews or other public content.

3. During a booking

  • Keep communication on the platform, so there is a record if a dispute arises.
  • Providers should tell someone they trust where they are and the expected finish time. Customers should tell someone when an unfamiliar provider is visiting.
  • Arrange first visits during sensible hours and have another adult present where practical.
  • Stop if the work turns out to be materially different from what was agreed, and re-agree scope and price before continuing.
  • Do not feel obliged to continue with anyone whose behaviour makes you uncomfortable. Ending a booking early is always preferable to pushing through.

JobTackl does not monitor live location or automatically summon help. Either person may leave or end a booking if they feel unsafe.

4. Payments and scams

Payments will be processed through Stripe. Treat any of the following as a warning sign:

  • A request to pay by bank transfer, cash app or gift card
  • Pressure to pay in full up front for work not yet started
  • A price that changes sharply once someone is at your door
  • Anyone asking for your password, one-time code or full card details — JobTackl will never ask for these

Report anything of this kind through Report a Problem.

5. Bookings involving children or vulnerable adults

Childcare and vulnerable-adult care are not permitted at initial launch. Tutoring for a child must be booked and managed by a parent or legal guardian.

  • Unsupervised in-person work with a child is not permitted unless JobTackl has verified an appropriate current Enhanced DBS check and confirmed that the role is legally eligible.
  • We recommend that a responsible adult is present for the first in-person session.
  • Providers communicate with the parent or guardian, not privately with the child.

Our expectations of providers in these categories are set out in the Provider Standards.

6. Keys, access codes and photographs

  • Share access instructions only through a confirmed booking and only when necessary.
  • Providers must not copy keys, retain alarm or access codes, or use them after the booking.
  • Photograph work or damage only where necessary and with the customer's knowledge. Do not photograph people, children, private documents, security systems or unrelated areas without clear permission.
  • Do not use booking photographs in a portfolio or advertising without separate consent.

Lost keys, exposed access codes or suspected unauthorised entry are urgent safety incidents and should be reported promptly. JobTackl will remove temporary access instructions after the limited retention period needed for support and disputes.

7. After a booking

  • Leave an honest review. It is the main signal other people have to go on.
  • Keep receipts and the agreed scope until you are satisfied the job is complete.
  • Raise problems promptly — the sooner we hear, the more we can do.

8. What JobTackl will do

When a safety report reaches us, our intended process is to acknowledge it, review the accounts and booking involved, and take proportionate action — which may include suspending or removing an account.

We will co-operate with the police and other authorities where we are legally required to, or where doing so protects someone at risk.

We cannot guarantee outcomes, supervise bookings in real time, or act as an insurer. Being clear about that is part of taking safety seriously.
